On the Danube
This star is mine,
that one is yours.
A familiar voice chases us
down the Milky Way.
Mother’s call is unanswered.
Where are we?
Sham crickets
speak of adultery.
Are we ever
to reach the green forest
outside our field of vision
where I kiss you.
Down your silence
climbs the night.
Down your body
the Danube calls out my name.
The clock laughs.
There is no more time.
