Poetry:

Shrawan Mukarung

Kamalari

I possibly couldn't know
Except me,
I found all people taller
i find myself shorter
Others get taller everyday
instead, I keep getting shorter !

Shorter than the flower in this vase;
These drawers, kitchenware,
This broom, the laundry
The landlord and the landlady!
And their fortunate children
Wow! How taller they are?
It is me
Who is  just shortening.

I’m smaller than
This tea cup, the whisky bottle
And the cigarette butt
Alas! How did I got so smaller?

At home, I was not so shorter
At home, I was taller

Taller than the sitting grandpa
Bigger than spotted cow
Taller than the mango tree down the farm
Taller than than my house
And taller than the sky above my house.

Papa! I am getting shorter in this city
If I thin out enough to vanish someday
While getting smaller everyday
Tell me, who will pay your debt?
