World Literature:

Lu Weiping (China)
He Doesn’t Get It
he kisses her lips
but doesn’t get why there are so many truths
in her silence
he kisses her eyes
but doesn’t get why her bright gaze
so often makes him see darkness
he kisses her ear
but doesn’t get why before she squeals
he never hears a thing
he kisses the scar on her brow
but doesn’t get why her pain worsens
on what he thinks is the most ordinary of days
he kisses her palm
but doesn’t get why what falls from her open hand
is everything he hoped to hold on to
he kisses her foot
but doesn’t get why where her footstep falls
is always a haze of confusion
he kisses her breast
but doesn’t get why she uses the word lonely
to describe her left breast alone
he kisses every bit of her
but doesn’t get why it’s so difficult to find her soul
a tiny corner one inch square
